Marea Hildebrand
Born in 1989, Marea Hildebrand lives and works in Zurich.
Founder and director of the international education program "School of Commons", she also holds a BA in Art Education with a specialization in Design and an MA in Transdisciplinary Studies from Zurich University of the Arts.
Her work reflects a simplicity and harmony inspired by nature, Japanese and Korean ceramics and the Wabi-Sabi philosophy. Imbued with depth and contemplation, her creations celebrate imperfections and ephemeral beauty. Marea uses local stoneware or clay, which she highlights with an engobe glaze to accentuate its natural character. The subtly worked surfaces evoke the textures of textiles or carved wood.
Favoring the colombin technique, which requires patience and time for the clay to reach the perfect consistency, the artist is in total connection with the material she works with. Robust and reassuring, the forms she creates are characterized by their slender bases, broad contours and intentional imperfections. Delicate and strong at the same time, Marea Hildebrand's ceramics stand out for their powerful beauty and great simplicity.
