Catherine Cazau

Catherine Cazau lives and works in Châteaudouble, Drôme.

Trained at the École Régionale des Beaux-Arts in Valence, she discovered engraving in 1990, a technique that has become her passion. Catherine has exhibited her work in many French cities, including Paris, Nice and Valence, as well as internationally in Switzerland and Sweden.

Her artistic approach is characterized by mainly abstract work, exploring the interactions between matter and color. She uses mixed media, including painting on large canvases and printmaking, often incorporating materials such as sand or marble powder. Her creative process is slow and thoughtful, building up her works in successive layers to achieve a balance all her own.

Catherine draws her inspiration from various artistic movements, including cubism, Dadaism and minimal art, and admires artists such as Picasso, Miro and Pollock. Her work is often described as a subtle palimpsest, in which she seeks less to represent recognizable forms than to invite viewers to an inner reflection, akin to reading a poem.
