Antonin Anzil

Born in 1988. He lives and works in Paris.
He graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de l'image de Poitiers in 2010 and from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 2012. He then worked at the Maison Francis Kurkdjian design studio until 2017, when he founded his own studio.
Finesse and delicacy characterise his artistic work. The paper medium seems incompatible with the idea of engraving or sculpture; and yet. The artist painstakingly creates relief, shapes and motifs, multiplies the dots, and creates a paper universe. On the bright white surface of the paper, inner landscapes, invented maps and secret motifs develop.
It is up to each of us to construct our own personal images, to find our own points of reference between the lines. The works are both poetic and tangible, and one would almost like to caress these delicate laces with one's fingertips. Some of them seem to be influenced by the decorative arts, and are close to textiles, reminiscent of the motifs of hangings or tapestries. Others still remind us of calm landscapes, aerial views of territories...you just have to let yourself dream of this journey.
Antonin creates a paper world where white predominates and spreads out like a snowy desert where the wind draws a marvellous and ever-changing landscape.
The artist invites us to plunge our gaze into this dreamlike universe and to let our mind escape beyond the representation.
